Bricco Manzoni
FROM MONFORTE D’ALBA, PIEMONTE (NORTH ITALY)
HISTORY
The first blended red wine in the region.
In the 70’s, the Langhe was a simple farming area not known internationally–as it is now–for some of the finest red wines in the world. People took a direct approach with their red grapes: nobody blended them. In 1976, Rocche dei Manzoni sent a shock through the region when they introduced Bricco Manzoni, composed of 80% Nebbiolo and 20% Barbera grapes.
The wine has been so influential that it has inspired many other producers in the area to make a blended wine of their own. Today, it would be difficult to find a winery in the Langhe that does not offer some version of it.
